Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Chemical Dependency Counselor to join our behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling and mental health support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Duties
- Deliver individual and group therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to promote recovery and resilience.
- Facilitate crisis intervention and crisis management strategies to support clients experiencing acute mental health or substance use crises.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards, including medical records, progress notes, and treatment plans using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Engage in client communication that promotes motivation for change, adherence to treatment plans, and ongoing recovery efforts.
- Participate in research activities and data collection initiatives aimed at improving clinical outcomes and advancing best practices in addiction medicine and behavioral health.
Requirements
- Licensure or certification as required by state law (e.g., LCDC, LMSW, LPC-A, LCSW, LPC).
- Proven experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Demonstrated expertise in psychotherapy techniques such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and crisis intervention strategies.
- Experience working with diverse populations across various cultural backgrounds within hospital settings or community-based programs.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and patient record management; knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality.
- Excellent case management skills with the ability to conduct client assessments in therapy settings effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining high standards of clinical documentation and patient confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills coupled with a passion for supporting mental health recovery through evidence-based practices.
