Sales and Use Tax Accountant

Soni Resources is seeking a detail-oriented Sales and Use Tax Accountant to support sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. This role will be responsible for assisting with the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns, gathering and analyzing transactional data, maintaining exemption certificate documentation, reconciling tax-related activity, and supporting ongoing tax compliance initiatives.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Excel. This is a great opportunity for an accounting or tax professional looking to build or expand their experience in sales and use tax.
Responsibilities:
Gather, organize, analyze, and manipulate sales, purchase, and tax data to support monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax return preparation.
Prepare assigned sales and use tax returns by reviewing supporting documentation, validating return inputs, and resolving routine discrepancies or questions.
File assigned sales and use tax returns and coordinate related tax payments in accordance with applicable deadlines.
Obtain, review, and maintain customer exemption certificates while monitoring for missing, incomplete, or expired documentation.
Review purchase invoices and other transactional activity to identify potential use tax accruals.
Prepare use tax journal entries and perform tax-related account reconciliations as assigned.
Assist with responding to tax notices, audit requests, and routine documentation inquiries.
Support tax compliance projects, process improvements, and other accounting or tax-related initiatives as needed.
Collaborate with internal business partners to obtain information and resolve routine tax-related questions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant tax or accounting experience may be considered.
2–5 years of accounting or tax experience preferred.
Sales and use tax experience is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating and modifying spreadsheets, data cleansing, pivot tables, and formulas.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring filing deadlines.
Compensation: 65,000 - $75,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
