Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Type: Full-Time
Pay: $25-$36/hour
Company Overview:
We are a small but ambitious accounting practice that provides a range of services including bookkeeping, payroll, sales taxes and fractional Controller services. We are passionate about delivering personalized financial solutions to small and medium-sized construction and real estate businesses. We are looking for committed individuals who want to grow with us, as there is plenty of room to grow after 90 days of successful performance.
We value personal and professional growth; quality service; relationships with each other & our clients; clear communication; our personal time; and building a great workplace environment.
Position Overview:
As our Senior Accountant, you'll manage the day-to-day financial operations for a portfolio of clients while helping build and strengthen our internal bookkeeping systems. You'll prepare accurate financial reports, ensure compliance, and provide insights that help clients make confident financial decisions. Experience in construction accounting is preferred.
The ideal candidate is resourceful, intuitive, and growth-oriented. Someone who loves learning, thrives on efficiency, and is excited to contribute to a fast-evolving accounting firm that values people as much as precision.
You will start as an independent contributor, learning our systems, our clients, and our culture. You own your schedule, you build your own structure, and you hold yourself accountable to deadlines and budgets without being micromanaged. Within 90 days, we expect you to be making judgment calls, flagging financial risks, owning client relationships directly, and overseeing and mentoring the bookkeeping team.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-Cycle BookkeepingManage AP, AR, general ledger, and bank reconciliations across a portfolio of clients. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Lead month-end and year-end close processes with consistency and precision.
- Client Relationship ManagementServe as the primary day-to-day contact for your assigned client portfolio. Manage client communications, lead monthly financial meetings, and deliver insights with clarity, care, and confidence.
- Tax Compliance SupportAssist with sales tax filings, payroll returns, 1099s, and coordination with CPAs. Missing hard compliance deadlines is not acceptable; staying organized and ahead of the calendar is a baseline expectation of this role.
- Quality Control & Team OversightReview bookkeeping work across client accounts to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to our standards. Lead quality control and quality assurance efforts. Train, mentor, and support junior bookkeepers, elevating the team's standards from the inside.
- Process ImprovementIdentify inefficiencies, gaps, and profit leaks across client accounts and internal workflows. Bring solutions to leadership, not just problems. Support automation and process optimization efforts that reduce administrative burden and improve accuracy.
- Project & Deadline ManagementTrack deliverables, deadlines, and client milestones. Proactively flag risks before they become problems. Manage your own workload with full accountability to scope, budget, and timeline without being micromanaged.
- Administrative & Document ManagementHandle client email management, meeting preparation, and agenda coordination. Maintain secure, well-organized digital filing systems with consistent naming conventions. Manage sensitive financial information with discretion and confidentiality at all times.
- Technology & SystemsConfidently navigate evolving digital tools and software. Learn new systems quickly, contribute to workflow improvements, and demonstrate initiative with tech-driven solutions. No public Wi-Fi, ever.
QualificationsExperience & Skills
- 5–10+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, with meaningful tenure in client-facing or public accounting settings
- Construction or specialty trades accounting experience strongly preferred; real estate experience is a plus
- Unwavering integrity, honest about your hours, your work, and your mistakes, even when no one is checking
- Meticulous precision, sloppiness genuinely bothers you; you check your work because you care
- Disciplined self-management, you build your own structure, own your deadlines, and stay within scope without being micromanaged
- Proactive communication, clients and teammates are never left wondering; you flag issues before they become problems
- Warmth with backbone, clients feel genuinely cared for, and when something is wrong, you say so clearly and hold your ground
- Leadership readiness, comfortable overseeing others' work, giving honest feedback, and mentoring without ego
Strongly preferred:
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop; QBO ProAdvisor or Xero certification is a plus
- Strong Excel and/or Google Sheets skills
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and task management tools (e.g., Asana)
- Prior experience owning or managing a bookkeeping business is highly valued
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
Who Thrives Here

- Are the person on your team who quietly catches what everyone else missed
- Want a firm that takes continuous education, high standards, and your long-term development seriously
- Are energized by variety, autonomy, and work that actually matters to the people you serve
