Overview:
Copeland, Stair, Valz & Lovell (“CSVL”), is seeking an experienced Paralegal for our downtown Atlanta office. The ideal candidate will have three (3) or more years' experience in a law firm, providing both billable and non-billable administrative assistance to support multiple attorneys.
Summary of Position:
As a Paralegal you will support partners, of counsel and associate attorneys in providing litigation defense services to their clients. On any given day, you will be providing assistance to attorneys while working in concert with the support staff in the Healthcare Team on multiple requests and projects. Those may include the following:
- Drafting deposition notices, extensions, standard discovery requests, HIPAA releases;
- Engage and ongoing work with medical expert witnesses in review and management of records
- Scheduling: deposition, trial preparation, court reporters, defense counsel meetings, internal meetings, meetings w/ treating physicians/fact witnesses & counsel if applicable;
- Prepare exhibits for depositions and trials;
- Analyze damages claims including reviewing bills and creating spreadsheet comparison;
- Perform e-billing maintenance: recording time, submitting budgets, managing contested bills, overseeing timekeeper submissions, communicating with accounting department;
- Prepare, submit and manage third-party requests including medical records requests and open records requests;
- Retrieve and organize pleadings and other case documents from court dockets, iManage, or litigation support for review by attorneys; and
Skills/Requirements/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience
- Medical knowledge/experience preferred
- Working knowledge of court system, e-filings and court filings required
- Attention to detail
- Independent judgment with excellent troubleshooting and follow-through skills
- Advanced skills to communicate both in writing and verbally
