ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Revenue Cycle Specialist supports the daily operations of the revenue cycle, focusing on tasks such as insurance verification, pre-authorization, claim submission, denial claims management, and follow-ups to ensure accurate billing and timely reimbursements. This role works closely with the Revenue Cycle Manager, patients, and third-party vendors to maintain efficient financial processes and contribute to a positive patient experience. This position is fully remote.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility before appointments or procedures.
- Obtain pre-authorization for treatments and services as required by insurance providers.
- Review claims for accuracy and completeness before submission to minimize rejections or denials.
- Submit claims to insurance companies and assist in monitoring claim statuses through designated software.
- Assist in resolving claim rejections by communicating with insurance companies or the billing team.
- Investigating claim issues, addressing the root causes, and submitting appeals as needed.
- Collaborate with the 3rd party billing company to follow up on outstanding claims and payments.
- Communicate with patients regarding billing inquiries or basic account questions, providing prompt and courteous service.
- Support the Revenue Cycle Manager by gathering and organizing data for reporting or troubleshooting purposes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient billing and insurance verification activities.
- Assist with credentialing tasks, such as organizing and tracking provider documentation.
- Help prepare and send patient statements and reminders for outstanding balances.
- Identify and flag potential issues in billing workflows or documentation and report them to the Revenue Cycle Manager.
- Assist in implementing updates to standard operating procedures (SOPs) as directed.
- Provide basic financial guidance to patients, including explaining their billing statements and insurance coverage.
- Help distribute and maintain patient education materials related to billing and insurance.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, medical billing, or a related area.
- Familiarity with billing or claims management software and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams and handle patient interactions professionally.
