Job Purpose:
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Director of Engineering is responsible for the technical and administrative leadership of multiple engineering disciplines/departments. Highly knowledgeable in overseeing and guiding work activity to support division/category level business objectives. Develops department goals and objectives that align with those of the division. Drives complex projects to successful completion in a cost effective and timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Generate, review, approve and ensure successful implementation of plans and processes that implement solutions to engineering problems
- Manage technical teams in executing the program plans to ensure all work is completed within cost and schedule commitments.
- Generate department goals and objectives that align with those of division and company.
- Provide technical briefings and design reviews for management and customers.
- Responsible for maintaining and allocating personnel resources to programs.
- Provide effective coaching and technical guidance, communicate as necessary with all levels of managements, customers, and subcontractors on program team.
- Direct and manage program and departmental costs, schedules, and manpower planning activities.
- Identify existing and future technologies to support division goals.
- Partner with Brand Marketing and Product Development to establish annual brand plans – help prioritize activities / projects that are deemed to drive largest return for Lionel Help define content strategy for product category Serve as brand ambassador at trade shows, distributor meetings, and other external events
- Recommends the structure of the Engineering team Set clear objectives and prioritizes initiatives for team members Assign clear projects and tasks to direct reports Effectively develops team members in a way that supports their career aspirations
· All other duties assigned by manager
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
- At least ten years of related engineering experience required.
· Five (5) or more years of management experience.
- General understanding of Mechanical, Electrical Hardware, Embedded Software, and Audio Engineering, with a specialty in one of the four.
- Hands-on experience required: soldering, power and hand tools
- Effective verbal/written and presentation skills with the ability to effectively present ideas/concepts to senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Solid demonstrated technical leadership skills and ability to influence and drive change.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and follow through to closure.
- Duties require critical judgement, effective participation in the formulation and carrying out of company policies, objectives and programs with direct accountability for final results.
- Demonstrated team building and project management skills.
- Broad knowledge of engineering technical issues/needs, financial, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development.
- Solid planning and execution skills
- Some travel is required.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
