Job Description:
Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing daily technician operations and ensuring the delivery of patient-centered, efficient, and compliant pharmacy services and delivery to our members. This working lead position reports directly to the Chief Pharmacist and works collaboratively with each pharmacist as needed to support daily pharmacy operations, assist in managing workflow coordination, staff training, inventory oversight, and regulatory compliance while actively participating in prescription processing and customer service. The Pharmacy Lead Technician must be available to work rotating shifts, fulfill the needs of and maximize the efficiency of the pharmacy.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient navigation of UHS systems, including pharmacy applications used
- Oversees prescription processing and data entry, ensuring accurate data entry, updating patient demographic information, and entering new and refill prescription orders accurately
- Serves as a primary point of contact for pharmacy technicians, providing guidance, training, and support
- Coordinates daily workflows and task assignments to ensure timely prescription processing and customer service standards
- Oversees operation of the pharmacy cash registers and electronic signature capture system, ensuring the maintenance of accurate records of customer transactions
- Demonstrates the highest level of confidentiality standards in handling customer relations, medical and prescriptions records, and HIPAA compliance
- Oversees and assists in maintaining pharmacy cleanliness and organization, and assuring routine cleaning of all pharmacy areas, including and not limited to the filling counters, shelves, and computer monitors using appropriate supplies
- Proactively shelves drugs and reference books, checks and removes expiring drugs, and returns to stock those prescriptions that have not been picked up by patients
- Monitors medication storage and expiration controls
- Assists and supports in inventory management including ordering, verifying, pricing, and stocking of all drugs and supplies
- Participates in the hiring process and training of department team members
- Assists and supports Chief Pharmacist with department activities including supply ordering and maintaining break schedules, and as directed
- Anticipates potential problems, bringing them to the Chief Pharmacist’s attention, assists with problem solving, handling escalated customer and telephone inquiries
- Proactively participates in creating a healthy and safe work environment
- Provides input for team performance appraisals and reviews
- Supports performance improvement initiatives
- Encourages team members to provide exceptional customer service, setting an example with a focus on patient experience
- Supports and adheres to all company personnel policies, processes, and procedures
- Knows, understands, and supports the contents of the employee handbook and the appropriate Union(s)’ Collective Bargaining Agreement (“CBA”)
- Participates in inventory forecasting and management
- Participates in daily cash deposits to the accounting department including
- a. Balances each register till to required total
- b. Prepares and reconciles cash, checks, and deposit slips to accounting
- c. Submits daily deposits to accounting and retrieves receipts for record keeping Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school graduate or higher, some college and/or college degree, preferred
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Illinois
- Certified Pharmacy Technician credential (CPhT) via The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Minimum of three (3) years of Pharmacy Technician experience
- Strong leadership, customer service, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and electronic medical and pharmacy record systems, preferred
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, multitask, organize, and manage multiple assignments
- Excellent verbal, telephone, and written communication, and basic math skills Bi-lingual (English, Spanish/Polish), preferred
- Ability to meet the physical demands of repetitive standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting, and reaching
