Payroll Tax Analyst
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Tax Analyst to join our payroll and accounting team in Akron, Ohio. This role is responsible for payroll tax compliance, reporting, reconciliations, and audit support across multiple states.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, multi-state payroll tax experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This position supports payroll accuracy, compliance, and continuous process improvement while working closely with Payroll, Accounting, HR, and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file federal, state, and local payroll tax returns (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually)
- Ensure compliance with multi-state payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts, liabilities, and related general ledger accounts
- Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries
- Reconcile quarterly and annual filings, including W-2 and ACA reporting
- Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, agency notices, and compliance issues
- Conduct internal payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulatory changes
- Assist with month-end close activities, including reconciliations and reporting
- Support external audits and provide required documentation
- Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Accounting, and external vendors to resolve issues and improve processes
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency, and automation
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll processing and payroll tax compliance experience
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Multi-state payroll tax experience required
- Experience with ADP and Spectrum preferred
- Strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
- Experience with payroll tax reconciliations and general ledger accounting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- High attention to detail and strong accuracy standards
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
