Surgery Coder
Job Summary:
Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications. Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement. Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- ICD-10-CM and CPT Coding Knowledge
- Responsible for researching all the information to verify the correct assignment of ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT codes
- Responsible for timely and accurate billing of the clinic and hospital charges
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills for accurate billing of both clinic and hospital charges.
- Compliance with current insurance coding and billing guidelines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software.
- Accepts other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-year experience with ICD-10 and EMR/EHR systems
- Experience in hand specialty medical coding, particularly with trauma cases.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines related to hand and upper extremity procedures.
- Ability to accurately code for high-volume trauma cases in a fast-paced environment.
- CPC certification
