The System Administrator V supports NOAA’s Earth System Research Laboratories (ESRL) and the N-Wave national network program by providing senior-level systems administration leadership across complex scientific and research environments.
RIVA Solutions is seeking a System Administrator V to serve as a senior technical leader responsible for enterprise systems administration, cloud integration, security compliance, infrastructure modernization, and team leadership. This role supports NOAA’s mission-critical research environments and provides strategic guidance across multi-platform infrastructures.

Serve as senior technical lead for UNIX/Linux, Windows, and macOS environments.

Oversee installation, upgrades, and lifecycle management of enterprise systems and services.

Lead enterprise backup, storage, virtualization, and container platform initiatives.

Architect and enforce security posture, RMF, A&A, and continuous monitoring activities.

Conduct engineering studies and technology evaluations.

Provide expert technical guidance for specialized applications and operational environments.

Lead and mentor Systems Administrators and technical support staff.

Develop and enforce SOPs, baseline configurations, and configuration management processes.

Oversee vulnerability management and remediation programs.

Lead cloud migration planning and cloud service integration initiatives.

Collaborate with scientists, researchers, engineers, and Federal stakeholders.

Drive Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning and preparedness efforts.

Represent contractor teams during Government technical and policy meetings.

Conduct technical training and seminars.

Participate in on-call support and major incident coordination.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

8–10 years of progressive enterprise systems administration experience including leadership responsibilities.

Expert-level UNIX/Linux administration and advanced shell scripting.

Expert-level Windows Server and Active Directory administration.

Comprehensive networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, VPNs, firewalls, and enterprise architectures.

Expertise with FISMA, NIST 800-53, RMF, A&A, and continuous monitoring requirements.

Experience leading complex multi-platform IT projects and technical teams.

Experience with enterprise backup, recovery, and replication architectures.

Strong technical writing and documentation skills.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background investigation.

macOS enterprise fleet management using Jamf Pro and Apple Business Manager.

High-performance computing (HPC) and scientific data storage environments.

Experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and Federal cloud platforms.

Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Infrastructure-as-Code expertise.

Federal scientific, research, weather, or climate IT experience.

Knowledge of NOAA and DOC IT policies and Federal contracting requirements.

RHCA, CISSP, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, or similar certifications.
