Job Overview
We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Inspector to supervise, inspect, and document the installation, maintenance, and repair of the newly designed Fixed Fire Suppression / Water Mist Systems (WMS) and respective infrastructure across the Hugh L. Carey and Queens Midtown Tunnels. This position spans the next 2 to 3 years and requires working dedicated night-time shifts to safely execute inspection tasks during scheduled lane and tube closures.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Systems Inspection: Monitor and inspect mechanical works associated with the WMS extensions and new construction, including all pipe work, hangers, valves, pumps, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical freeze protection components.
- Tunnel Infrastructure Repairs: Oversee construction operations relating to tunnel leak remediation, exhaust air duct (EAD) flues, and EAD leak repairs at both tunnel facilities.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Verify that all mechanical installations comply with the Project Requirements and Design Criteria (PRDC), ISO 9001 standards, and approved technical specifications.
- Testing & Commissioning Oversight: Witness and evaluate code-required and Authority-directed periodic testing, component activations, and integration with SCADA hardware/software.
- Reporting & Record Keeping: Maintain strict field records, compile daily maintenance and inspection logs, and assist with utility damage or unusual occurrence reporting within 24 hours of an incident.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Strong professional background in mechanical inspection, technical quality control, or resident representation on large-scale infrastructure or transit projects.
- Shift Requirement: Must be fully available to work full-time night shifts (9PM-5AM) matching the allowable tunnel work hours.
- Safety & PPE: Strict adherence to tunnel safety protocols. Must possess and bring standard personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, heavy-soled safety work shoes, safety glasses, and an orange reflective safety vest.

Pay: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour
