Plans Examiner (Temporary)
$45.00/hour | Full-Time | 6-12 Month Assignment
A well-established public sector agency in the Inland Empire is seeking an experienced Plans Examiner for a temporary full-time assignment. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with municipal plan review experience who are knowledgeable in building codes and permitting processes.
The selected candidate will review residential, commercial, industrial, and multifamily construction plans to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, local ordinances, and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Review residential, commercial, industrial, and multifamily construction plans for code compliance.
- Evaluate architectural plans and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate plan reviews with Planning, Fire, Public Works, Utilities, and other departments.
- Respond to technical questions from architects, engineers, contractors, homeowners, and the public.
- Assist inspectors with complex field conditions, code interpretations, and unusual construction methods.
- Prepare correction notices and maintain accurate project records.
- Support permit issuance by verifying approvals, calculating applicable fees, and assisting customers at the permit counter.
- Ensure timely processing of plan reviews and permits.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience performing municipal combination inspections for residential, commercial, or industrial construction.
- AND one of the following:
- One (1) year of building plan review experience with a public agency, or
- One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in architecture, structural or engineering design, drafting, or construction related to building code compliance.
- Ability to obtain an ICC Plans Examiner Certification within 12 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC Plans Examiner Certification.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of the California Building Code and municipal permitting processes.
- Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
Assignment Details
- Duration: 6-12 months
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
- Location: On-site (Inland Empire)
- Pay Rate: $45.00 per hour
