Duties
- Operate tractor-trailers, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and specialized equipment for over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Safely load and unload freight using manual handling techniques and equipment such as forklifts when necessary.
- Navigate using GPS systems to optimize routes and ensure timely deliveries across multiple locations.
- Transport hazardous materials and dangerous goods following FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and hazardous materials regulations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate driving schedules, share driving responsibilities, and maintain consistent communication during routes.
- Comply with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, including hours of service, vehicle inspections, and safety protocols.
- Ensure proper documentation for freight, including load manifests, delivery logs, and inspection reports.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the type of freight transported (e.g., Hazmat endorsement preferred).
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving and route driving for freight transportation companies.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for truck driving.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and handle manual loading/unloading processes.
- Experience with logistics cargo handling equipment such as forklifts or dump trucks is a plus.
- Strong understanding of truck loading/unloading procedures and freight safety requirements.
- Excellent navigation skills using GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while maintaining high safety standards.
