Position Summary:
Welder Non-Exempt 0 Welding Supervisor / Sheet Metal Manager Welding The Welder is responsible for effectively applying various welding equipment to produce top quality welds using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) techniques and through robotic welding technology. Under the direction of the Sheet Metal Production Manager, the Welder will work with hand-held torches, grinders, and other technical implements in the production process. MIG welders carry out inspection of welding equipment before welding and follow instructions to process product per specifications and within tolerance, complete all clean-up and housekeeping procedures, and comply with all quality, safety, work rules, and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely and consistently operate assigned equipment and machines.
- Inspect, measure, or test completed metal workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring and testing devices.
- Read blueprints, work orders, or production schedules to determine product or job instructions or specifications.
- Set up, operate, or tend welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
- Lay out, fit, or connect parts to be bonded, calculating production measurements as necessary.
- Correct problems by adjusting controls or by stopping machines and opening holding devices.
- Transfer components, metal products, or assemblies, using crane equipment.
- Prepare metal surfaces or workpieces, using hand-operated equipment, such as grinders, cutters, or drills.
- Set dials and timing controls to regulate electrical current, gas flow pressure, heating or cooling cycles, or shut off.
- Record operational information on specified production reports.
- Regular and predictable on-site job attendance, and ability to work overtime as required.
- Wear PPE and clean the assigned area
- Contribute to the maintenance of the Quality Management System through the correct execution of its functions and/or activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Competences, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent, required 1 year or more of demonstrated experience in MIG welding.
- Welding certification a plus.
- Experience with Robotic welding software is a plus.
- Proven ability to operate various welding implements to achieve high-quality welds.
- Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based on job requirements.
- Attention to detail to perform welding operations in accordance with set specifications and configuration.
- Proficient in the use of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, templates, rulers, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot assembly problems by analyzing the variables and drawing a conclusion on the best course of action.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions or information contained within engineering prints.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have a professional attitude, work well with others, and have the ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy are paramount.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written work instructions/procedures.
- Must consistently wear required personal protective equipment and adhere to safety procedures.
- Working familiarity with MS Office, email, and Internet applications.
- Good math skills, including use of decimals, fractions, scales, and addition/subtraction/multiplication.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- Ability to understand and communicate Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.
- Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred

- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time; frequently move around the workstation/area and production floor, using PPE all the time; and position themselves to access different areas and angles of the product being assembled, including stooping, bending, and crouching.
- Frequently use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms to operate equipment, install components or move parts/equipment.
- Lifts, pushes/pulls, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly. May have to move an object from one location to another.
- Visual acuity is necessary to do the job safely and effectively. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision work to perform inspections and in reading schematics, peripheral, profundity, blueprints, and instructions.
Work Environment:
This position works in a non-air-conditioned warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and some exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
