The pharmacy technician position is one that assists the pharmacist under his direct supervision to provide patient care in the most accurate and efficient way possible. A pharmacy technician is required to be licensed by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and maintain yearly continuing education.
Responsibilities
1. Interpreting medication orders from physician or physician assistant.
2. Data entry of prescription orders.
3. Printing and filling of those orders including cart fill for current census.
4. Maintaining daily physician auto stops and making the appropriate physician aware.
5. Printing daily reconciliation sheets and maintaining appropriate billing and resupply quantities.
6. Re-stocking medication room both upstairs and emergency department.
7. Daily cleaning of aseptic isolator.
8. Monitoring inventory levels of current stock and ordering when necessary.
9. Delivery of medications ordered throughout the day from both nursing services and emergency department.
10. Monitoring and processing of outdated medications.
Job Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent as deemed appropriate by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
Experience: One year of pharmacy technician experience, preferably 5 years in hospital setting.
Job Knowledge: Education of all drug classes, brand and generic names, and primary indication(s).
Requirements
Knowledge and Ability: Competency of all major drug classes and their specific usage, storage, and safety requirements. Computer skills including data entry of prescription orders, patient billing, and inventory maintenance. Competency of aseptic technique and preparation of intravenous medications in our aseptic isolator.
Experience: Must have strong foundation in pharmacy practice with at least one year as a pharmacy technician, preferably 5 years in a hospital setting.
License and Certifications: Must have current Louisiana Board of Pharmacy technician certificate.
Continuing Education: Must achieve ten CEU hours annually keep current and past years on site and annual SWANK and/or hospital requirements.
