Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a pivotal role in optimizing patient flow, enhancing patient satisfaction, and supporting clinical efficiency within the practice. This position combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to facilitate seamless healthcare delivery. The MA serves as a brand ambassador for the clinic, ensuring patient-centered care and contributing to the clinic’s mission to improve community health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties
- Perform patient intake: obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, chief complaints, and medication reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Prepare exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness, stocking, and readiness for procedures.
- Assist providers with examinations, minor office procedures, and specimen collection.
- Administer injections, immunizations, and perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, and other delegated clinical tasks in accordance with state regulations and clinic protocols.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and processing of laboratory specimens.
- Provide patient education on chronic conditions, medication administration, and follow-up care under provider guidance.
Administrative Duties
- Schedule appointments, coordinate referrals, and manage prior authorizations to facilitate patient access to care.
- Maintain accurate, timely EMR documentation, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinic standards.
- Handle patient communications, triage calls, relay provider instructions, and document all patient interactions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, assisting in data collection for performance metrics and regulatory compliance (e.g., PCMH, UDS, HEDIS).
Additional Responsibilities
- Uphold infection control and OSHA standards to safeguard patients and staff.
- Support inventory management by monitoring supplies and assisting with ordering.
- Engage in cross-training to cover front office duties as needed, reinforcing team flexibility and operational continuity.
- Contribute to patient outreach initiatives (e.g., wellness reminders, care gap closures), aligning with the clinic’s strategic growth and community engagement objectives.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program; certification (CMA/RMA) preferred.
- Strong clinical skills, with keen attention to detail and commitment to evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR systems and patient scheduling software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; empathetic approach to patient care.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-driven environment with adaptability to evolving practice needs.
