Job Description – Senior Radio Systems Project Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with deep subject-matter expertise in large-scale public safety radio systems to lead the implementation of a new 7-800 MHz P25 digital trunked radio communications system.
Location

- Some local travel between radio sites/facilities may be required

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Project Manager for the new 7-800 MHz radio system implementation
- Work directly with the prime system contractor (Motorola), radio consultants, and internal technical staff to ensure successful system cutover
- Oversee and validate subscriber cutover to the new system, ensuring issues are identified and resolved quickly
- Participate in and validate execution of system acceptance testing, including punch-list tracking and resolution
- Oversee and validate API development/integration work (C, C++, Java, ASP.NET) connecting the new radio system to logging/recording systems, CAD, GIS mapping, and asset management systems
- Review project schedules, milestone completion documentation, and vendor invoices for contractual compliance
- Track and drive resolution of all open project issues
- Provide knowledge transfer to internal staff throughout the engagement
- Review and validate technical and non-technical system documentation
- Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, licensing, and construction deadlines throughout the project
- Supervise and coordinate tasks assigned to radio consultants and other project team membersRequired Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience managing Motorola public safety radio systems and projects (law enforcement environment strongly preferred)
- Direct experience across 500 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, combined 7-800 MHz, and LTE frequency bands
Strong working knowledge of:
- P25 Digital Radio Systems — Phase I and Phase II standards
- APX, XTS, and XTL 2500/1500 mobile and handheld radio subscribers — fleetmapping, configuration, codeplugs, and programming parameters
- MCC 7500 and dispatch consoles — trunking and conventional systems
- Microwave radio systems
- ISSI (Inter-RF Subsystem Interface)
- Radio coverage map interpretation and evaluation
- ADP and AES encryption
- FDMA/TDMA modulation schemes
- OTAP, OTAR, and radio authentication
- Radio Core, DSR, Radio Central, and Provisioning Manager platforms
- Familiarity with C, C++, Java, ASP.NET — enough to oversee/validate integration work into logging, CAD, GIS, and asset management systems (hands-on coding not required, but technical fluency to manage the work is)
- Solid understanding of FCC regulations, compliance, licensing, and construction requirements
- Proven experience as a team lead/supervisor overseeing consultants and technical staff
- Experience with acceptance testing procedures and alarming systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills — this role involves regular status reporting and cross-team coordination
Ideal Candidate Profile
A hands-on senior project manager who has "been in the trenches" on at least one large-scale Motorola P25 public safety radio deployment — someone equally comfortable reviewing a contractor's technical design as they are managing a project schedule, budget, and vendor invoices.

Pay: From $65.00 per hour
