Position Overview
The Bar Back is a foundational part of the bar team, responsible for supporting the Bartenders and ensuring the bar operates with speed, efficiency, and consistency. This role requires urgency, awareness, and a strong work ethic, with the ability to anticipate needs before they arise. The Bar Back maintains the flow of the bar by keeping it fully stocked, clean, and organized at all times, allowing Bartenders to focus on guest interaction and beverage execution. More than just support, this position plays a direct role in the overall guest experience by contributing to a seamless, well-executed service environment.
Team Support & Awareness
- Anticipate the needs of Bartenders and proactively provide support throughout service
- Maintain constant awareness of bar flow, stepping in without being asked to ensure efficiency
- Communicate clearly with the bar team to support timing and execution
Stocking & Preparation
- Keep the bar fully stocked with all necessary products including ice, glassware, garnishes, spirits, beer, and wine
- Prepare garnishes, juices, and batching components according to standards
- Replenish inventory continuously throughout service to avoid disruptions
Cleanliness & Organization
- Maintain a clean, organized, and polished bar environment at all times
- Clear glassware, clean surfaces, and manage dish flow efficiently
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and workspaces are properly maintained and service-ready
Operational Support
- Assist Bartenders with opening and closing duties, including setup and breakdown of the bar
- Support with restocking wine & liquor, and maintaining storage areas
- Handle trash, recycling, and overall upkeep of bar-related areas
Service Contribution
- Assist with running beverages or food when needed to support overall restaurant flow
- Step into additional responsibilities as directed by management to ensure seamless operations
