Golf Course Greens Crew – Part-Time Equipment Operator

Hillandale Golf Course is looking for a reliable, experienced equipment operator to join our golf course maintenance team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment and taking pride in producing a clean, professional-looking golf course.
We are specifically looking for someone who can get on a tractor or mower and confidently cut grass to a high standard.
Position Details
- Position: Part-Time Golf Course Maintenance / Equipment Operator
- Schedule: 2–4 days per week
- Hours: Flexible part-time schedule
- Location: Hillandale Golf Course – Durham, NC
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate golf course mowing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Primarily operate fairway mowers, rough mowers and tractors.
- Mow assigned areas of the golf course according to daily maintenance schedules.
- Produce clean, consistent mowing patterns and quality cuts.
- Properly navigate around bunkers, trees, cart paths, greens and other course features.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical or maintenance issues.
- Follow instructions from the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance leadership.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with other golf course maintenance tasks as needed.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience operating tractors, commercial mowers or golf course equipment.
- Can confidently operate a fairway mower or rough mower.
- Understands that mowing a golf course requires precision, patience and consistency.
- Has good spatial awareness and takes pride in producing straight, clean mowing lines.
- Is dependable and shows up ready to work.
- Can work independently once trained.
- Is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Understands that equipment operation requires attention to detail and care for the turf.
- Takes pride in the appearance and presentation of a golf course.
Golf Course Experience Preferred
Previous golf course maintenance experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience operating fairway or rough mowers.
However, we are willing to train the right person who has demonstrated experience operating tractors, commercial mowing equipment or other similar machinery.
What We're Looking For
This isn't necessarily a traditional full-time maintenance position. We're looking for someone who wants to work 2–4 days a week and spend those days operating equipment and helping us keep the golf course looking its best.
If you like getting on a mower, putting in a day's work and seeing exactly what you accomplished when you're finished, this could be a great fit.
Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
