Summary:
B&B Trucking, Inc. is a family owned and operated company who understands the value of family. Our Mechanics help to ensure our drivers have safe and reliable equipment. The Preventive Maintenance Mechanic under supervision, performs specialized mechanical duties in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty equipment or other vehicles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs inspections and preventive maintenance on trailers.
- Diagnoses problems, makes repairs and replaces parts.
- Performs all trailer repairs including repairs to overhead doors, brakes, air systems, landing gear, roofs, lighting, etc.
- Follows a predetermined preventive maintenance program.
- Utilizes electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Utilizes a variety of power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, grinders, welding and flame-cutting equipment, jacks and hoists.
- Utilizes a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and wrenches.
- Performs inspections of brake systems, wheel bearings and other parts.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of training or experience.
- Vocational or technical school training preferred.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Knowledge of parts and nomenclature, practical knowledge of heavy duty mechanical equipment maintenance.
- Working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, inspection and maintenance.
- Must possess a standard variety of hand tools, including but not limited to: Screwdrivers, pliers & vice grips, wrenches (open/box/adjustable) ratchets, socket sets, impacts, hammers, punches etc. – all in various sizes.
- State certifications in Brakes, Suspension, Electrical & Electronic Systems a plus.
- Must be able to pass a company physical and drug screen. ·
- Good manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination. ·
- Exceptional attendance and attitude.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing for extended periods, using hands and fingers, reaching at waist level, above the shoulder and below waist level.
- Viewing and focusing on small print, small parts, or computer screens.
- Occasionally required to stoop, bend, lift moderate to heavy weight, and climb.
- Standing or lying in awkward positions to repair vehicles and equipment.
- Must be able to spend up to 50% of the day standing and up to 30% of the day walking on surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal, which may be slippery and wet.
- May occasionally carry items varying in size and shape and weighing 1 lb to 100 lbs. May stand or lie in awkward positions to repair vehicles and equipment.
- Using office equipment including computers, telephones, and calculators.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in a well-lit, heated and ventilated area, however; drafts and noises are common.
- Works a standard 40-hour week, however, may be required to work overtime, and weekends as necessary based on pre-determined schedule.
