In this role, you will support surgical teams by preparing operating rooms, sterilizing and handling surgical instruments, and ensuring all procedures adhere to the highest standards of safety and infection control. Duties
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing instruments, arranging surgical supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functional and ready for procedures.
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, suturing wounds, and managing surgical tools with precision.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques to prevent healthcare-associated infections and ensure patient safety throughout procedures.
- Monitor vital signs and patient responses during surgery, providing critical support in trauma care, pediatric cases, or complex surgeries such as endoscopy or fracture treatment.
- Collect and document data related to surgical procedures, patient care, and equipment usage within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or other EMR platforms.
- Support infection prevention protocols through proper sterilization of medical equipment and adherence to hospital policies on healthcare infection control.
- Assist with the management of medical records and ensure accurate documentation of surgical interventions and patient information.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Surgical Technologist in hospital environments, including OR experience in plastic/ cosmetic surgery, medical-surgical, trauma centers (Level I or Level II), ICU, PICU, or ambulatory surgery centers.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical procedures across various specialties including trauma care, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and critical care.
- Skilled in handling surgical instruments, suturing techniques, treatment of fractures, endoscopy equipment operation, and treatment of acute injuries.
- Demonstrated expertise in aseptic technique, infection control practices, and hospital experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
- Ability to perform data collection accurately while analyzing patient responses during complex procedures.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred; relevant certifications are required where applicable.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analysis skills to support patient care decisions in high-stakes environments like trauma or emergency medicine settings.
