Animal Control:

You will have an opportunity to directly care for animals and deal directly with the public while maintaining the commitment to the philosophies and policies of the Sauk County Humane Society and respects the dignity and basic rights of each animal.
Animal Control Responsibilities: You will be “on call” and available to respond to animal calls in a timely manner. Pick up stray animals safely and humanely transporting them to the shelter. Pick up injured animals, giving necessary care and/or transport to a veterinarian if needed. Assist law enforcement officers with unruly animals, abandonment cases, protective custody animals, and other cases. Take reports of animal bites and issue quarantine orders.
Environment: Can be dirty and wet; exposure to unpleasant odors, loud noises and chemicals; requires restraining, lifting, and carrying animals; exposure to pests; possibility of being bitten or scratched; requires standing for long periods, bending, squatting, reaching, heavy lifting.
Qualifications: High School diploma required, further education preferred; animal shelter experience highly preferred; licensed, or willing to become licensed, to perform humane euthanasia; excellent communication, problem-solving, and basic computer skills; able to work independently and on teams; able to handle the physical and emotional work in an animal shelter, including the use of euthanasia. Must be able to handle a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, and wildlife in a safe and humane manner. Must possess a thorough understanding of and dedication to the philosophies of animal welfare and humane handling. You MUST possess a valid driver’s license, have a good driving record, and live within 20 minutes of the shelter.
Schedule: Individual must be able to work one to two nights per week and one to two weekends per month on an “on call” schedule.

Regular Shifts (On-Call)
· Base Rate: $30 per shift
· Call Pay:
o Day Shift: $10 per hour worked
o Night Shift: $20 per hour worked
Holiday Shifts (On-Call)
· Base Rate: $45 per shift
· Call Pay:
o Day Shift: $10 per hour worked
o Night Shift: $20 per hour worked
