Location: Franklin, IN
Pay: $25.00–$35.00 per hour, based on experience
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday through Friday. 7 to 3:30.
About the Position
We are a small, family-owned manufacturing company in Franklin, Indiana looking for an experienced CNC Lead Machinist / Programmer to take ownership of our CNC machining department.
This is not simply a machine operator position. We are looking for an experienced CNC machinist who can step in as the lead of the CNC department from day one, while remaining hands-on with programming, setups, machining, troubleshooting, and production.
The right person will have the opportunity to make the CNC department their own, improve processes, help organize production, train other employees, and eventually take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the CNC side of our business.
Our CNC department currently consists of four Haas CNC machines — two CNC mills and two CNC lathes.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead person for the CNC machining department
- Program, set up, and operate Haas CNC mills and lathes
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and part specifications
- Select tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies
- Make program edits and adjustments as needed
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, dimensional, and surface-finish issues
- Set up jobs efficiently and ensure repeatable production
- Inspect completed parts and maintain quality requirements
- Help plan and prioritize CNC production
- Improve machining processes, setups, tooling, and cycle times
- Maintain an organized CNC work area and tooling system
- Train and assist other CNC operators and machinists
- Take ownership of problems within the CNC department and work toward solutions
- Help develop the CNC department as the company grows
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced CNC machinist and leader, not an entry-level operator.
A strong candidate should have:
- Several years of hands-on CNC machining experience
- Strong CNC setup experience
- CNC programming experience
- Experience with CNC mills and/or CNC lathes
- Strong understanding of tooling, speeds and feeds, workholding, and machining processes
- Ability to independently troubleshoot machining problems
- Ability to read prints and hold required tolerances
- Experience inspecting machined parts
- Good mechanical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently without needing constant direction
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- A willingness to train and help develop other employees
Experience with Haas CNC machines and Haas controls is strongly preferred.

You may currently be a:
- Lead CNC Machinist
- CNC Programmer
- CNC Setup Machinist
- Senior CNC Machinist
- CNC Department Lead
- CNC Manufacturing Lead
If you're currently the person everyone comes to when a machine, setup, program, or part isn't working correctly, you may be exactly who we're looking for.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
Because we are a small, family-owned company, this position will have a direct impact on how our CNC department operates.
We aren't looking for someone to simply come in and run the same job every day. We want someone who takes pride in machining, enjoys solving problems, and wants the opportunity to take ownership of a CNC department and help build it for the future.
You'll have the ability to influence machining processes, tooling, organization, training, and how work moves through the department.
Compensation
$25.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on CNC experience, programming ability, leadership experience, and overall skill level.
