JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality Department and developing a structured, data-driven quality system that supports product reliability, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building processes, improving performance, and establishing a culture of quality ownership. The Quality Manager will partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Customer Service to drive defect prevention, reduce Cost of Quality, and improve operational effectiveness. The position will utilize the ECI M1 ERP system to support quality reporting, traceability, and data-driven decision making.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Hire, train, and develop Quality Department personnel.
· Direct daily activities and workflow of the department.
· Conduct performance evaluations and employee development.
· Manage employee timecards and time-off requests.
· Ensure appropriate staffing of inspection and quality activities.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality System Leadership
· Develop and maintain quality policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
· Promote consistent quality standards throughout the organization.
· Establish document control and process discipline.
· Develop systems and processes that support continuous improvement and future quality initiatives.
· Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to improve product quality and process effectiveness.
Regulatory Compliance and UL Program Support
· Support and maintain compliance with applicable UL standards and other regulatory requirements governing dry-type transformer products.
· Partner with Engineering to ensure product designs, materials, and manufacturing processes conform to UL requirements.
· Establish and maintain process controls, inspections, and audit activities necessary to support ongoing compliance.
· Verify adherence to labeling, traceability, and documentation requirements associated with UL-certified products.
· Work with Production to ensure correct application of product labels and adherence to approved procedures.
· Support internal and external audits and lead corrective actions related to regulatory or certification requirements.
· Coordinate and maintain Department of Energy (DOE) reporting and documentation requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable energy efficiency standards and regulatory obligations.
· Communicate updates in applicable standards and ensure alignment across affected departments.
Inspection and Quality Control
· Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.
· Establish inspection criteria and acceptance standards.
· Ensure proper documentation and disposition of nonconforming material through DMR/NCR processes.
· Maintain calibration and measurement system effectiveness.
Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement
· Lead Root Cause Investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies, including 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D.
· Implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues.
· Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to improve quality and efficiency.
· Lead Value Stream Mapping initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
· Promote defect prevention and a culture of accountability throughout the organization.
Cost of Quality and Data Analysis
· Develop and monitor Cost of Quality metrics, including scrap, rework, warranty, and internal failure costs.
· Utilize ECI M1 ERP data, queries, and reports to identify trends and drive improvement initiatives.
· Develop dashboards and performance metrics to support data-driven decision making.
· Prepare and present quality performance reports to leadership.
Supplier and Customer Quality
· Develop supplier scorecards and monitor vendor performance.
· Lead Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and supplier quality improvement initiatives.
· Manage customer complaint investigations and corrective actions.
· Serve as the Voice of the Customer and promote customer satisfaction initiatives.
· Develop and administer customer satisfaction surveys and monitor performance trends.
Training and Quality Culture
· Develop and deliver quality-related training programs.
· Promote quality ownership throughout the organization.
· Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
· Provide leadership and coaching to Quality Department personnel.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field.
· 10 or more years of manufacturing quality experience with leadership responsibility.
· Strong knowledge of quality systems, inspection processes, and root cause analysis methodologies.
· Experience utilizing ERP systems; ECI M1 experience preferred.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· ASQ certification (CQE, CQA, or CSSBB preferred).
· Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
· Lean Manufacturing training or certification.
· Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures and quality metrics.
· Experience implementing Cost of Quality programs and supplier quality systems.
· Experience supporting or implementing ISO 9001-based quality systems.
· Experience supporting UL compliance programs and working within regulated manufacturing environments.
· Familiarity with UL standards, labeling requirements, and audit processes for electrical equipment or power distribution products
· Experience in electrical manufacturing, power distribution equipment, or transformer manufacturing.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Performance will be measured by:
· Reduction in scrap, rework, and warranty costs.
· Reduction in repeat quality issues through effective corrective actions.
· Development and utilization of supplier scorecards.
· Timely closure of customer complaints and corrective actions.
· Increased visibility and reporting of quality metrics through ECI M1.
· Successful implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
· Development and standardization of procedures and quality processes.
· Maintenance of UL compliance requirements and timely resolution of audit findings.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
