“I Have A Dream” Foundation (IHDF) provides individualized social, emotional and academic support to students from historically marginalized communities from first grade to first job, along with guaranteed post-secondary tuition support.
IHDF-Milwaukee (IHDF-MKE) has recently launched a new cohort in partnership with the Milwaukee Academy of Science, with intensive and intentional focus on supporting not only “Dreamers” (youth served by “I Have A Dream” Foundation), but also their families, through intergenerational wrap-around support to help bridge equity and resource gaps, and promote stability, well-being, and thriving.
JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION MISSION: To ensure that Dreamer Scholars (youth participating in the IHDF-MKE program) receive high-quality after-school, mentoring, and family engagement support that nurtures their academic growth, social-emotional development, and overall well-being.
The Program Support Specialist (PSS) supports the day-to-day implementation of after-school programming, mentoring, and family engagement activities under the guidance of the Program Coordinator. This role provides direct support to Dreamers, assists with program logistics and data entry, and helps maintain an inclusive, engaging, and safe environment for all participants.
Level of Work:Part-Time, Non-Exempt – Up to 25 hours per week (primarily after-school hours, occasional evenings/weekends)
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the coordination and facilitation of after-school programming and mentoring activities for Dreamer Scholars.
- Provide one-on-one and small group mentoring support to Dreamers focused on academic, social-emotional, and wellness goals.
- Support the planning and execution of family engagement events, workshops, and celebrations.
- Help with the setup, supervision, and clean-up of program activities and events.
- Collect and enter attendance and program participation data accurately and promptly.
- Build meaningful relationships with Dreamer Scholars and families, fostering trust, respect, and belonging.
- Assist with Dreamer transportation needs (valid driver’s license required; vehicle provided if available).
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Represent IHDF-MKE positively at school and community events.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of Dreamer Scholars and the program team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework in education, youth development, social work, or a related field preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth in education, mentoring, after-school, or community settings.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and whole-child development.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse team and community.
- Comfortable with basic data entry and use of Google Workspace or Microsoft Office tools.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable transportation required (ability to transport youth as needed).
- Must pass background check
- Comfortable driving a 12 passenger van
- Availability during after-school hours with occasional evenings or weekends.
- Tentative Schedule: 9:00am-2:00pm Monday, Thursday and Friday and 2:00-6:00pm Tuesday and Wednesday
PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, move program materials, and engage actively in youth activities.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Program Support Specialist reports to the Director of Program Services and works closely with the program team, volunteers, and community partners.
COMPENSATION AND TERM
- Hourly rate: $18-$25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
