Job Title: Manual Machinist

Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and highly precise Manual Machinist to join our production team. You will be responsible for interpreting engineering drawings, setting up traditional machine tools, and crafting high-quality metallic and non-metallic components. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently on custom or low-volume projects, and a strict adherence to tolerance specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up, operate, and maintain manual machinery, including engine lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and drill presses.
- Blueprint Reading: Read, interpret, and follow complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine the sequence of operations.
- Material Shaping: Turn, mill, drill, bore, and grind materials to exact dimensions and tight tolerances.
- Quality Control: Perform thorough inspections of finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauge blocks.
- Calculations: Perform necessary shop math and geometry calculations to determine angles, feed rates, and cutting speeds.
- Tool Maintenance: Select, sharpen, and adjust cutting tools. Maintain manual equipment by performing routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Comply with all company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3–5 years of proven experience setting up and operating manual machining equipment.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a vocational training program, formal apprenticeship, or journeyman certification is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of metal properties, machining principles, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods, perform frequent bending and lifting, and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Tools: Possession of personal hand tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.) may be required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Primarily based in a busy manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and moderate to high noise levels.
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
