Our team is currently looking to hire a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic. Schedule would be Monday through Friday and Saturday availability is required. This position provides all types of daily repairs and maintenance, from front to back, on all trucks and trailers in our 80+ MACK, FREIGHTLINER & KENWORTH Fleet. In this position you will be determining the scope of repairs, communicating to the Shop Manager what parts and supplies need to be ordered for the vehicles, the implementation of the actual repairs and maintenance on the vehicles/trailers. Activities will include running diagnostics, performing repairs, preventative maintenance, DOT/AVIR inspections, etc. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulics, transmissions, breaks, electrical and mechanical systems and be able to troubleshoot and repair heavy trucks & trailers.
Expectations include:
- Diagnosis and repair of all assigned equipment.
- Determine vehicle condition by conducting computer assisted inspections and diagnostic tests.
- Perform system repairs to engines, transmission, air and hydraulic systems, breaks, tires, drivetrain, steering and suspension, electrical and A/C.
- Perform all preventive maintenance inspections, state and federal mandated safety inspections and complete repairs in accordance with DOT requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance on tractors, trailers, and small fleet vehicles.
- Assist with keeping shop area clean.
- Within the scope of role, ensure adherence with all Company policy & regulatory procedures as set forth by OSHA, EPA, DOT and MSHA.
- Participate in regular Company training around safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ensure all shop source documentation for Federal and State compliance is completed and forwarded to the Shop Manager. Ensure that all Company work orders are properly prepared and forwarded to the Shop Manager
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in truck, trailer, diesel repair and maintenance preferred with a strong background in MACK, CUMMINS & PACCAR tractor repair.
- Federal Motor Carrier Brake Training Certification
- Federal Motor Carrier Power Unit & Trailer Certification
- Proficient in technical tools required in company tractor and trailer repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT Regulations applicable to truck and trailer repairs & maintenance
- Strong diagnostic capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of the Tech Tools computer assisted diagnostic program (or similar).
- Knowledge of hydraulics.
- You must provide your own tools necessary to perform the required repairs.
- The ability to frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 100 pounds and meet pre-hire physical.
- Strong oral and written and communication skills.
- High school diploma or GED.
