We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and certified GIA Graduate Gemologist to join our New York team on-site.
Job Summary
As an on-site GIA Graduate Gemologist, you will be responsible for the precise evaluation, sorting, and grading of loose natural diamonds. Utilizing your extensive technical training and industry experience, you will ensure our inventory aligns perfectly with GIA standards and Sim Gems' strict internal quality metrics. This role requires exceptional visual acuity, a deep understanding of the global diamond market, and a collaborative spirit to support our inventory and sales operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Precision Grading: Evaluate loose diamonds according to the strict GIA 4Cs criteria (Carat, Clarity, Color, and Cut), with a strong focus on recognizing subtle clarity characteristics and proportions.
- Inventory Verification: Authenticate arriving diamond shipments against laboratory grading reports and internal purchase specifications.
- Quality Control (QC): Identify and separate stones requiring recutting, polishing, or re-certification to maximize stone value and yield.
- Data & System Management: Input precise gemological data into our inventory management system to maintain an accurate and high-performing digital database.
- Sales & Memo Support: Collaborate closely with our wholesale sales team to fulfill specific stone inquiries, memo requests, and customer orders efficiently.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Must hold a GIA Graduate Gemologist (GG) or Graduate Diamond (GD) diploma from the Gemological Institute of America.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional, hands-on diamond grading experience within a laboratory, manufacturing, or high-end wholesale environment.
- Technical Skills: Expert proficiency with gemological equipment (microscopes, loupes, master color sets, and digital measuring devices).
- Attributes: Exceptional eye for detail, steady hands for secure stone handling, and strong organizational skills.
- Location: Must be based in or willing to commute daily to our New York, NY office (this is a fully on-site position; remote work is not available).
Pay: From $3,000.00 per month
