American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Trauma Level III teaching hospital, requiring at least 18 months of Cardiac Tele or PCU experience and the ability to float across a regional hospital network.

Work in a 16-bed Cardiovascular Interim Care (PCU) unit within a 457-licensed-bed, Trauma Level III teaching hospital designated as a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence

Patient population includes CV surgery, heart failure, chest pain, cardiac cath pre/post care, management of TR bands, AFib, and IV cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Milrinone, Diltiazem, IV Sotalol), with medical overflow

All patients require telemetry monitoring; patients are remotely monitored at an off-unit arrhythmia center with visual EKG capability at the nurses station and hallway

RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4

All private rooms; no negative pressure capability

12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

No on-call or call-back requirements

Floating is required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH — peds only); candidates not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply

IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Unit equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, vein finder, Sara Stedy, and lifts

Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 18 months of Cardiac Tele RN or PCU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Proficiency with skills including PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, Pleurx drains, surgical drain management, and chest tube management

Epic EMR experience

1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Fast-paced, team-oriented unit with up to 6–8 discharges per day shift; use of the discharge unit for patients meeting criteria is expected

CNAs support the nursing team with ADLs, bathing, foley care, mobility, repositioning, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, and glucometer checks
-
Additional support includes an IV/VAT team, charge nurse (may or may not carry a patient assignment), 24/7 respiratory therapy (shared across units), 24/7 hospitalist (not unit-based), and a resource nurse when staffing allows

Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract

Schedule is published on a 6-week cycle

Scrubs must be navy

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the unit's home facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted

Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
