Responsible for coordinating and processing all specimens.
Processing specimens includes accurate registration of patient information, including demographics and insurance information, accurate ordering of tests, accurate labeling of tubes and specimens.
Processing also may include the separation of serum, organization of all handling, sorting and organization of transport samples to the departments involved including samples being sent to other laboratories.
Position relates to overall function of the laboratory and the hospital in view of patient care so test results are not compromised.
Acts as a laboratory liaison between all outreach accounts.
Proven typing ability (40 wpm) and computer skills.
Knowledge of HIS/LIS preferred.
Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work.
Must possess and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
Teach medical technology students how to process specimens and answer computer related questions.
Responsible for care and accuracy in collection and labeling specimens.
Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.
Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress, to ensure against errors.
Above average manual dexterity.
Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing and reading.
