Caregiver Job Description:
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, dependable, and experienced Caregiver to provide daily personal care, companionship, household support, and safety monitoring in a private home setting. The ideal candidate will support the client's dignity, independence, health, and quality of life while ensuring that all daily care tasks are completed consistently and thoroughly. The client is 101 years-old and has advanced dementia, she is very sweet and easy going.
This role requires a caregiver who is confident, professional, and able to navigate complex family dynamics while maintaining focus on the client's care needs. The successful candidate will be experienced in setting healthy boundaries, communicating effectively, and working collaboratively in a home environment where family members are actively involved.
Experience caring for individuals with dementia is required.
This is a 1099 Independent Contractor position. Client is located near BSU in Boise.
Schedule is generally 8:30am-12:30pm (flexibility on times) and 6pm-8pm. Both shifts are daily.
Daily Care Responsibilities
Every Morning Shift
Personal Care
- Change Depends as needed.
- Assist with changing clothing.
- Brush teeth and assist with oral hygiene.
- Assist with toileting and ensure proper wiping and hygiene.
- Cleaning
- Encourage regular bathroom use.
Health & Wellness
- Ensure prescribed vitamins and cranberry supplements are taken.
- Offer water throughout the shift and encourage hydration.
- Offer snacks as appropriate.
- Observe and report changes in condition, mobility, cognition, or behavior.
Household Tasks
- Take out garbage.
- Complete assigned cleaning tasks for the day.
- Maintain a clean, safe living environment.
Life Enrichment & Companionship
Provide meaningful engagement and companionship through activities such as:
- Watching television (does not need to be the news)
- Conversation and social interaction
- Bird watching through the window
- Walking indoors and encouraging movement
- Puzzles, games, and crafts
- Reading books and magazines
Safety Responsibilities
The client uses a walker for mobility and safety.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the walker is always accessible.
- Encouraging consistent use of the walker.
- Monitoring for fall hazards.
- Promoting safe mobility throughout the home.
- Reporting any safety concerns, incidents, or changes in condition immediately.
Family Dynamics & Professional Expectations
This position is located in a private home where the client's adult son resides and is actively involved in the daily routine and oversight of care.
The son is highly preferential about the client's schedule, preferences, and routines. He values consistency and structure and may have difficulty with changes or deviations from established routines. Usually there is an acclimation period with new Caregivers as well, usually subsiding within 1-2 weeks. This position requires a caregiver who is comfortable working in an environment where expectations are clearly defined, though family may have frustrations or pushbacks, and family involvement is significant.
The ideal caregiver will:

- Be confident in following and completing the care plan.
- Maintain healthy professional boundaries.
- Demonstrate strong conflict-resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Stay focused on providing excellent care regardless of interpersonal challenges.
- Advocate for the client's needs while maintaining a collaborative working relationship within the home.
We are specifically seeking an experienced caregiver who can navigate a strong and sometimes challenging personality, hold appropriate boundaries, and ensure that the client consistently receives the care outlined in this job description.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2 years of professional caregiving experience.
- Experience caring for individuals with dementia is required.
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.
- Commitment to ongoing schedules, consistency is extraordinarily important.
- Ability to perform personal care tasks with dignity and compassion.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow established routines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a private-home setting.
Preferred
- CNA certification or equivalent caregiving experience.
- Experience with fall prevention and mobility assistance.
- Experience in private-home care settings.
- Experience navigating challenging family dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and manage conflict professionally.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a compassionate, dependable, and emotionally mature caregiver with experience supporting individuals with dementia. This position requires someone who can provide consistent, high-quality care while maintaining boundaries in a family-centered environment.
The client's son is highly involved in daily care, values consistency and structure, and is very particular about established schedules and routines. New caregivers should expect an initial acclimation period, typically lasting 1–2 weeks, as working relationships and trust are established. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in an environment where family involvement is significant, and occasional frustrations or pushback may occur.
The ideal caregiver will remain calm and professional during challenging interactions, communicate effectively with family and team members, maintain healthy boundaries, follow the care plan with confidence, and stay focused on ensuring the client receives the care outlined in this job description. We are seeking an experienced caregiver who can navigate strong personalities with patience, professionalism, and consistency while prioritizing the client's well-being at all times.
Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
