Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms with dental instruments, supplies, and sterilization procedures to ensure a clean and efficient environment for patient care
- Assist dentists during procedures such as restorations, extractions, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry with chairside support
- Take dental X-rays using advanced equipment like digital X-ray systems and 3D scanners while maintaining strict adherence to infection prevention management policies
- Manage patient records accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or open dental, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care and medical records management
- Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures aligned with infection control standards to uphold safety and aseptic techniques
- Preform front desk operations by handling patient management software tasks, scheduling appointments, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting with a solid understanding of dental terminology and anatomy knowledge
- Experience with dental equipment operation such as dental x-ray machines, endodontic tools, prosthodontic devices, and oral surgery instruments
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or open dental for efficient medical documentation and record keeping
- Strong knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including dental sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatric dentistry patients, demonstrating excellent patient care skills
- Understanding of medical coding related to dental procedures for accurate billing and documentation purposes
- Knowledge of general dentistry procedures along with specialized areas such as endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, pediatrics, and anatomy
