Job Summary
Full-time veterinary assistant/technician with 2 years minimum experience in veterinary field will work alongside DVM, Lead Tech and assistants in small animal, family-owned practice that has been in Savannah for over 40 years.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with medical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring, radiology diagnostics, and surgical assistance.
- Perform animal restraint and handling to ensure safety for both pets and staff during examinations and treatments.
- Manage laboratory work such as phlebotomy, diagnostic testing, and sample processing to support accurate diagnoses.
- Administer medications, IV insertions, and animal catheterization following aseptic techniques and veterinary protocols.
- Operate medical equipment including X-ray machines, dental units, and anesthesia machines with precision.
- Maintain detailed veterinary records using specialized software while ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Support pet grooming, pet care routines, and kennel management to promote comfort and well-being of hospitalized animals.
Requirements
- Proven experience in veterinary assisting or technician roles with knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal physiology.
- Hands-on experience with cat & dog handling, pet grooming and animal restraint techniques.
- Competence in laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy and diagnostic radiology including X-ray operation.
- Ability to perform general anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and vascular access procedures confidently.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration; prior experience with veterinary software is preferred.
