We're looking for a detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe to support our ophthalmology team by accurately documenting patient encounters in real time. Working alongside physicians during exams, you'll record medical histories, test results, diagnoses, and treatment plans into the EHR — allowing the provider to focus fully on patient care.
Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm Monday through Friday.
This position involves traveling between our locations (Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care
Record complete and accurate documentation of patient visits, including chief complaints, ocular and medical history, exam findings, and physician orders. Prepare charts ahead of appointments, assist with patient flow, and ensure records are updated and compliant with clinic standards.
The position responsibilities includes but is not limited to (we are willing to train the right candidates):
- Document patient medical and ocular history, chief complaints, and review of systems in real time during physician encounters
- Record detailed findings from eye exams, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, slit-lamp findings, and dilated fundus exams
- Transcribe physician diagnoses, treatment plans, medication changes, and follow-up instructions into the EHR
- Prepare and pre-populate patient charts prior to appointments using prior visit notes and referral documentation
- Enter orders for diagnostic tests, referrals, and prescriptions as directed by the physician
- Assist with patient flow and coordinate with front desk and clinical staff to maintain scheduling efficiency
- Ensure documentation meets compliance, accuracy, and completeness standards before end of day
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Learn and apply ophthalmic terminology, abbreviations, and common conditions (e.g., glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy)
- Support physicians during procedures by documenting steps, findings, and outcomes as needed
Communication
- Interact with Managers, MD's, OD's and other members of our team
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferably Certified as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Tech (not required)
- Ophthalmic/Optometric experience encouraged to apply
- Will train the right candidate
