Job Summary:
The Sport Team assistant coach is responsible for helping guide their team with planned practices that were designed by the lead coach. They will mentor and guide the youth as a positive role model. Will also participate in meetings appropriate to the Sport Team assistants. Will assist the lead coaches at swim meets and whenever it applies.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching
- Assist with Practices: Help conduct swim practices, focusing on technique, endurance, and speed training
- Individual Coaching: Provide one-on-one coaching to swimmers to help them improve specific skills
- Support Competitions: Assist with swimmer preparation during meets, including warm-ups, race strategy, and post-race feedback
- Mentoring: Act as a role model and mentor for young athletes, fostering skill development, increasing their confidence and creating a positive and inclusive team environment
- Swim Program Development: Develop comprehensive swim mechanics for various skill levels, ages, and competitive goals
- Safety Management: Commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all swimmers and staff through rigorous adherence to safety protocols and regular training drills
- Enforcing Rules: Ensure swimmers adhere to safety guidelines and team rules
General and Administrative
- Communication: Assist in communicating with parents about swimmer progress, upcoming events, and other team-related matters
- Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with parents, volunteers, and community stakeholders, fostering a supportive and inclusive swim community
- Administrative: Assist with scheduling, record-keeping, and other administrative duties as needed
- Conflict Resolution: Resolving conflicts among swimmers, parents, or staff members with diplomacy, empathy, and professionalism
- Additional responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Experience: Have a background in the sport of swimming and/or other athletics
- Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills for effectively teaching and motivating young athletes
- Patience: A high level of patience and the ability to work with children of varying skill levels
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work well with the coaches, other assistants, and support staff, and adhere to the team objectives for your group
- Adaptability: Flexibility in adjusting coaching techniques to meet the needs of different swimmers
- Time Management: Ability to manage practice sessions efficiently to cover planned drills and activities
- Safety Awareness: Keen understanding of pool safety protocols and the ability to enforce
- Flexibility: Adaptability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Decision-Making: Skilled at making sound and rational decisions
- Certifications: Current certification in lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid, or capable of certifying in these within 30 days of hire date
- Background Check: Must be able to successfully complete a background check
- Transportation: Must have regular reliable transportation to attend practices at Redmond, Juanita and Strattonwood Pools as well as attend swim meets
