In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional patient care service while managing a variety of administrative duties. Your energetic approach will help create a welcoming environment, streamline patient flow, and ensure accurate documentation and billing processes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care through efficient front desk operations and medical administrative support.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be available to work M-F (8:00AM-5:00PM) and 1 Saturday per month from 8:00AM-3:00PM
- Bilingual ( preferred )
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment, including front desk or receptionist roles
- Familiarity with medical billing procedures, insurance verification processes, and CPT/ICD coding standards
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient service and phone etiquette.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology essential for accurate documentation review and compliance.
- Must be a positive and energetic team player capable of supporting and working in a team setting.
- Detail-oriented and able to perform multiple duties at once in order to accomplish the common goal of going above and beyond to make patients happy and support your team. Our Patient Reviews system is at an utmost importance.
- Proficient computer skills especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Previous experience working in an optometric practice is a plus but not required. Paid training for the position is provided.
DUTIES:
- Greet patients warmly, and assist with intake procedures using EMR (Electronic Medical Record)
- Schedule appointments efficiently utilizing medical scheduling software (Crystal Practice Management)
- Verifying patients' vision and medical insurance coverage to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement for vision and medical services. This includes verifying eligibility, benefits, and coverage limits.
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, answer inquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
- Maintain accurate medical records by filing documents, reviewing documentation for completeness, and updating health information management systems.
- Contacting insurance companies to obtain pre-authorizations for medical procedures or treatments.
- Assist with medical coding tasks such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding to support billing accuracy.
- Communicating with healthcare providers to gather necessary information for insurance verification.
- Resolving any insurance issues or discrepancies that may arise during the verification process.
- Updating patient records with accurate insurance information.
- Educating patients on insurance coverage and potential out-of-pocket expenses.
- Collaborating with billing and coding teams to ensure accurate claims submission.
- Answer phones to assist with appointment scheduling, patient prescription requests, co-management appointments, etc. This includes assisting walk-in patients with scheduling and pertinent requests.
- Support office management activities by handling clerical tasks such as data entry, typing reports with 10-key typing skills, and organizing medical files.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality during all interactions and documentation review.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to facilitate care plans and ensure smooth clinic operations.
Additionally, a successful Benefits Verification Specialist should have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of medical terminology and insurance procedures. Time management and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment are also essential for this role.
Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
