The Prince George’s Community College Adult Basic Education Program has an immediate opening for an in-person, part-time Math Instructor in its GED Program at the Laurel College Center.
The ABE Adjunct Instructor is responsible for creating an engaging and supportive classroom environment that helps adult learners strengthen their mathematics skills and prepare for the official GED Math exam.
This is a grant-funded, contractual position.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
- Prepare lesson plans and develop teaching aids/materials targeted to adult learners.
- Create activities that cultivate math literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Monitor students’ progress using quizzes, assessments, etc.
- Maintain appropriate classroom environment
- Track and manage students’ attendance.
- Assist students with transition goals (educational attainment, employment, etc.).
- Participate in student registration, pre- and post-testing, as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree (required); in Education, Math or English (preferred).
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional experience in Education, Business, or Science.
- Excellent written, oral, and communication abilities.
- Strong analytic and critical thinking skills.
- Strong computer literacy and demonstration of computer skills.
- Must be patient, flexible, and able to work with individuals from various backgrounds and abilities.
HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years (2) experience teaching in a secondary, community college, ABE/GED, or alternative educational setting.
- Knowledge of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, preferred.
- Knowledge of CCSS and CCRS, preferred.
