Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Vehicle or Industrial Electrician to build and wire Intramotev's self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles — and the industrial control panels and test equipment behind them — in our St. Louis facility. The center of gravity for this role is in-shop, build-to-print work: constructing complex wire harnesses; installing electrical controllers, battery systems, and electric motor systems; and assembling and wiring control panels and cabinets to layout drawings and schematics. Occasional on-site field service, install, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer sites is a secondary duty.
You'll work as a hands-on, mid-level technician on the shop floor within our Engineering/Manufacturing organization, on a team of 3–10 engineers and technicians, with occasional domestic travel (roughly 10%) to support field activities. This role builds and wires to print; controls engineering owns the logic, so the work does not involve PLC programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Wire Harness Assembly: Construct and test complex wire harness assemblies from wire run lists, system schematics, and published BOMs.
- Vehicle Fabrication & Assembly: Execute the electrical assembly and wiring of large-scale self-propelled rail vehicles, including installation of electrical controllers, battery systems, and electric motor systems.
- Panel & Cabinet Build: Assemble control-panel and cabinet backplanes to panel layout and general-arrangement drawings, mounting DIN-rail breakers, ice-cube relays, contactors, motor starters, and terminal blocks per the print.
- Control Wiring: Wire relay-logic, contactor, and motor-starter control circuits to electrical schematics and wire run lists, with crimped ferrules, labeled conductors, and clean wire-duct dress.
- Termination & Dress: Terminate terminal blocks and field connections, route and lace control wiring, and finish each panel to UL 508A-style workmanship standards.
- Testing & Validation: Verify finished assemblies and panels with continuity, point-to-point, and function checks against the print, and support the testing and validation of system performance to industrial safety and performance standards.
- System Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot high-voltage and low-voltage electrical issues during build and bring-up.
- Field Service Support: Provide occasional on-site maintenance, install, commissioning, and troubleshooting of fielded vehicles and panels at customer sites.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, controls, and production teams to provide feedback on manufacturability, panel layout, and system performance.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of as-built wiring, service actions, redlines, and system modifications.
About You
Basic Qualifications (Required)
- 3+ years working on large-scale electrical systems for vehicles (e.g., trucks, construction equipment, rail) or heavy industrial equipment, and/or building and wiring industrial control panels and cabinets.
- Demonstrated proficiency reading and interpreting electrical schematics, panel layout / general-arrangement drawings, technical drawings, and wire run lists — and building to them.
- Hands-on control wiring experience: relay-logic, contactor, and motor-starter circuits, including terminal-block termination, crimping and ferrules, and clean wire-duct dress.
- Experience with fabrication tools, shop equipment, and electrical diagnostic equipment, including continuity, function, and point-to-point checks against the print.
- Willingness to learn new systems and take on tasks beyond your immediate area of expertise.
- Open-minded and comfortable working as a hands-on individual contributor in a small-team shop environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically on occasion (roughly 10%) for field service, install, commissioning, and troubleshooting support.
- Fluent in both written and verbal English.
- U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired)
Working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas below:
- Panel build to UL 508A (industrial control panels) or equivalent workmanship standards.
- Motor control experience — 3-phase power, variable frequency drives (VFDs) or soft starters, and motor protection.
- Experience with Electric Vehicle (EV) powertrains or high-voltage battery management systems (BMS) — our railcars are battery-electric vehicles, so EV experience translates directly.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as CAN bus.
- Technical degree or certification in Electrical Systems, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
Typical Education and Experience
Education and experience are typically acquired through technical education and 3 or more years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay: $26–$32 per hour (full-time, non-exempt). Intramotev offers a comprehensive benefits package for all team members:
- Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.
