Position Summary
The Prefabrication Foreman is responsible for leading the daily operations of Hammer Haag Steel's Prefabrication Department. This position oversees approximately 20–30 employees and is responsible for ensuring production goals are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
The successful candidate is an experienced fabrication leader who can effectively manage workflow, develop employees, coordinate production activities, and maintain a safe and productive work environment. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires a strong understanding of steel fabrication processes and the ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operations of the Prefabrication Department.
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of approximately 20–30 shop employees.
- Plan and prioritize departmental workflow to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
- Assign work based on manpower, equipment availability, and project priorities.
- Monitor production to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings and production documentation.
- Coordinate with project management, detailing, purchasing, shipping, maintenance, and other departments to maintain production flow.
- Monitor employee performance and maintain accountability for attendance, productivity, workmanship, and safety.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
- Ensure equipment, tools, and work areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of steel fabrication experience.
- Previous supervisory or foreman experience in a steel fabrication environment.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication methods, equipment, and shop operations.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.
- Experience managing production schedules and coordinating workflow.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading a prefabrication department or multiple fabrication crews.
- Welding and fitting experience.
- Experience implementing process improvements and increasing production efficiency.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
Work Environment
This position is based in a steel fabrication facility. The work environment includes exposure to heat, noise, dust, and moving equipment. The Prefabrication Foreman is expected to spend most of the workday on the production floor leading employees, monitoring operations, and supporting daily production activities.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
