Duties
- Maintain constant visual observation of assigned patients to monitor their condition and ensure safety at all times
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including mobility support, feeding, grooming, and toileting, respecting each patient’s dignity and preferences
- Observe and document patient behaviors, vital signs, and any changes in condition using electronic medical record (EMR) systems accurately and promptly
- Collaborate closely with nurses, doctors, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to communicate patient needs and report concerns or incidents effectively
- Support patients with cognitive disabilities or mental health conditions by implementing behavior management strategies and providing reassurance
- Assist with basic medical tasks such as patient safety checks, manual handling using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary, and following first aid protocols in emergencies
- Help maintain a clean and safe environment by adhering to infection control standards, including cleaning duties related to patient areas
Requirements
- Prior experience assisting with assisted living or nursing home residents is highly preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or intellectual disabilities
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, hospice care, and senior care practices
- Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS), including CPR and crisis intervention techniques
- Ability to work effectively with patients experiencing cognitive impairments or mental health challenges while maintaining patience and compassion
- Strong communication skills for caregiver interactions and reporting patient conditions accurately
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and manual handling tasks safely using appropriate equipment like Hoyer lifts
- Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation purposes
- Valid driver’s license preferred for driving responsibilities related to home care or patient transportation
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information
- Experience working in hospital settings or home care environments is advantageous
