Job Title: Fabricator Entry Level
Reports To: Department Lead

Based in Atlanta Georgia, SAF is a leader in the architectural metal products market with six operating locations in Georgia, Indiana, Tennessee, California, and Texas. We distribute, fabricate, and finish (anodize and paint) aluminum and other products primarily for the commercial construction market.
SUMMARY
The Fabricator will fabricate, assemble, and quality-check sheets and extruded metal products, such as simple and complex brake shapes, column covers, panels, flashing, coping, etc, or automotive parts. Work may involve any of the following: setting up, and assisting fabricating machines operators such as Brake Press, Shear, Saws, and Rollers to cut, bend, sand, grind, and roll sheet metal; welding, packing, inspecting, and assembling, material movement and packing This position will report to the lead within his/her department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material according to drawings or templates, using measuring tapes, calculators, scribes, squares, calipers, and rulers.
- Read production instructions and interpret part drawings to ensure correct fabrication, surface quality, and piece counts. Ensure that customer requirements are met.
- Responsible for maintaining traceability and packaging parts according to SAF guidelines and customer requirements.
- Notify Department Leads when problems arise in meeting customer requirements.
- Follow priorities according to operational schedules and the department Lead’s directions.
- Help with housekeeping efforts in his/her area to continually improve in accordance with 5S methods.
- Possess knowledge and understanding of required safety equipment and its proper usage. Always wear your PPE when required.
- Recommend, and support continuous improvement within the department and the company to improve employee performance, quality control, productivity, efficiency, and cost reduction.
- Be flexible: perform various other duties as required by your supervisor.

- Candidate must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Candidate must have at least a year of experience in fabrication.
- Candidate must be able to work well with others, participate in production and safety meetings and innovate by using process thinking.
- Candidate must be available to work overtime, as needed.
- General Computer Skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of fabrication equipment within a fabrication department.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with groups inside and outside the organization. Must score 3 or better on the ACT WorkKeys Assessments for Reading for Information. Other language skills include:
- Ability to read and interpret production instructions and workplace graphics such as detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, safety rules, schedule reports, part drawings, forms, tables, graphs, or diagrams:
- Summarize information from one or more detailed graphics.
- Identify trends shown in one or more detailed or complicated graphics.
- Compare information and trends from one or more complicated graphics.
- Ability to read, and write routine reports and correspondence in English using:
- Author narrative reports via email and use our SharePoint forums.
- Understand acronyms, paraphrased definitions of technical terms, and industry jargon.
- Apply technical terms and jargon and relate them to new situations.
- Apply complex instructions that include conditionals to situations described in the materials.
- Interpret and apply company policies and safety regulations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must score 3 or better on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment for Applied Mathematics.
Examples of daily tasks include:
- Decide what information, calculations, or unit conversions to use to solve the problem.
- Look up a formula and perform single-step conversions within or between systems of measurement. For example, convert centimeters to inches.
- Calculate using mixed units (e.g., 3.5 hours and 4 hours 30 minutes).
- Find the best deal using one- and two-step calculations and then compare results.
- Calculate linear dimensions, perimeters, and areas from fabrication drawings calling on Algebra or Geometry skills.
- Calculate percentage discounts or markups.
- Strong ability to count, add, subtract, and use a tape measure.

This is a physically demanding position and physical fitness is a must. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs, squat, bend, stoop, and kneel. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
