Employment Duration: 3 months (w/ potential for extension)
This temporary Medical Assistant role supports ambulatory and outpatient clinical practices across multiple UCSF clinic locations. Working under the supervision of clinical leadership and in collaboration with nurses, providers, and administrative staff, the Medical Assistant plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting efficient clinic operations.
This position requires flexibility to float across clinics as needed and a strong commitment to organizational standards, patient safety, and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Support & Patient Care
- Obtain, validate, and document patient-reported information and vital signs.
- Assist with medication reconciliation and patient history updates (e.g., allergies, tobacco use, family history).
- Support nurses and providers during patient exams and procedures.
- Perform routine clinical tasks such as height, weight, pain screening, and chief complaint documentation.
- Act as a chaperone and assist with procedures in accordance with training and competency requirements.
- Maintain infection control standards and follow sterile processing protocols as applicable.
- Assist with patient transport and support patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Collect specimens and perform Point of Care Testing, including EKGs and required quality control documentation.
- Communicate effectively with patients and care teams to support coordination of care.
Clinical Documentation & Electronic Health Records
- Enter and maintain accurate clinical documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Document vitals, patient histories, and Point of Care Testing results.
- Assist with opening and managing telephone encounters, messages, referrals, and follow-up tasks.
- Schedule labs, diagnostic imaging, and other services per provider orders.
Patient Experience & Communication
- Maintain professionalism, courtesy, and confidentiality in all patient interactions, both in person and over the phone.
- Communicate service delays appropriately and provide updates to patients and clinic staff.
- Assist with addressing patient concerns using effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Support a positive, respectful, and patient-centered clinic environment.
Operational Support & Clinic Maintenance
- Ensure exam rooms, clinical areas, and workspaces are clean, organized, and appropriately stocked.
- Assist with inventory management and ordering of medical supplies.
- Support scheduling needs for procedures and diagnostic services as assigned.
- Assist with clinic flow, staffing coordination, and break coverage as needed.
- Maintain required logs and documentation (e.g., equipment checks, temperature logs).
- Participate in quality improvement, safety, and patient experience initiatives.
- Adhere to all ambulatory services, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications :
- Relevant Medical Assistant experience
- Current American Heart Association CPR certification.
