Overview
Join our dynamic pathology team as a Pathology Grossing Assistant, where you will play a vital role in the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for diagnostic analysis. Duties
- Assist in the gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens following established laboratory procedures and safety protocols
- Prepare tissue samples for histological processing
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used for tissue processing and sectioning, ensuring proper calibration and cleanliness according to CLIA regulations
- Accurately document specimen details in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and ensure proper labeling and tracking of samples throughout the workflow
- Follow aseptic techniques during specimen handling to prevent contamination and ensure specimen integrity
- Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely processing of specimens while adhering to laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Skills
- Proven experience in clinical or research laboratories with a focus on tissue sample preparation, histology, or pathology support
- Strong knowledge of laboratory tissue sectioning, histological techniques, and laboratory procedures aligned with CLIA regulations
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), specimen collection/processing, and medical terminology
- Experience with laboratory equipment used in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy (sectioning), and staining techniques including immunohistochemistry
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology concepts relevant to tissue examination and diagnosis
- Ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures accurately while maintaining high standards of aseptic technique
- Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple specimens efficiently within a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of hospital or healthcare laboratory workflows, patient care considerations, and vital signs monitoring is a plus
