About ABDS
Anderson Brothers Design & Supply is a full-service product development, production and fulfillment company. We partner with established brands to develop custom apparel, headwear, accessories and promotional products—from initial concept and sampling through bulk production and delivery.
As our custom apparel business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Apparel Designer & Technical Product Developer to help move projects from creative concept to factory-ready execution.
Position Overview
This is a hands-on hybrid position combining apparel design, product development and technical design.
The right person will have a strong creative eye along with the technical knowledge needed to turn an idea, inspiration image or customer direction into a complete and producible apparel package.
This individual will work closely with our internal sales, design and production teams. ABDS management will continue to lead customer communication, factory negotiations, pricing and overall production timelines. This position will focus on developing the product, creating accurate technical documentation and helping ensure that samples and finished goods meet the intended design.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret customer direction, inspiration images and brand guidelines to develop original apparel concepts.
- Create professional CAD presentations, garment flats and colorway options.
- Develop factory-ready technical packages for apparel and headwear.
- Create detailed construction callouts, measurement specifications, graded size charts and bills of materials.
- Specify fabrics, fabric weights, colors, trims, labels, washes and garment finishes.
- Provide clear placement, size and color specifications for screen printing, embroidery, appliqué, patches and other decoration methods.
- Recommend appropriate fabrics, garment construction and decoration techniques based on the intended product and price point.
- Review prototypes, pre-production samples and top-of-production samples.
- Measure samples and prepare clear fit, construction and quality comments.
- Revise technical packages based on customer approvals and sample feedback.
- Help identify potential construction or production concerns before styles are submitted to the factory.
- Maintain organized and accurate development files throughout the product-development process.
- Manage multiple projects and customer programs while meeting agreed-upon deadlines.
- Collaborate with the ABDS team to move approved products efficiently from concept through production.
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in apparel design, technical design or apparel product development.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating both creative apparel design and technical execution.
- Proven experience creating complete, factory-ready technical packages.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, trims, washes and manufacturing methods.
- Experience creating garment specifications and measuring samples.
- Knowledge of screen printing, embroidery, appliqué, patches and specialty decoration.
- Ability to translate creative direction into a product that is both visually appealing and commercially producible.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with sales, production and management.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with men’s and women’s knits, T-shirts, fleece, cut-and-sew apparel and headwear.
- Experience developing custom branded merchandise for established corporate, hospitality, automotive, food and beverage or lifestyle clients.
- Familiarity with both domestic and overseas apparel manufacturing.
- Experience reviewing fit samples and issuing factory-ready correction comments.
- Understanding of costing considerations, minimum order quantities and production limitations.
- Experience developing accessories or other custom soft goods is a plus.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will be able to receive initial creative direction and independently develop it into a polished presentation and accurate technical package. Their work will reduce development errors, improve sample accuracy and help ABDS move custom apparel programs forward more efficiently.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced apparel professional who enjoys working across both the creative and technical sides of product development and wants to play an important role in a growing custom-apparel business.
