Basic job description:
- Assisting with diagnostic procedures and acquiring laboratory samples, processing in-house and reference lab samples, taking radiographs, anesthesia monitoring, dental prophylaxis, surgical preparation and recovery, hospitalized patient care, critical/emergency care and triage
- Provides patient restraint during procedures and examinations.
- Assists with euthanasia when necessary.
- Maintains surgical equipment, including cleaning and preparation of sterile instruments and surgical packs.
- Responsible for the daily care of animals by providing appropriate food and water, as well as basic grooming and bathing.
- Performs cleaning/housekeeping including but not limited to: laundry, floors, trash/recycling, cleaning treatment areas, and maintaining the surgical suite in preparation for procedures.
- Assists with maintaining an inventory of animal hospital supplies; performs medical equipment maintenance.
- Maintains proper documentation in the electronic medical record, and maintains other records as required.
- Ensures personal compliance with applicable laws established by the Tennessee Board of Veterinary Medicine and the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
Qualifications
- Veterinary experience and knowledge of veterinary terminology
- Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques
- Familiarity with animal physiology and anatomy
- Experience with animal catheterization and pet care
- Skilled in veterinary critical care and hospitalization
- Relevant experience in X-Ray procedures
