Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher (ages 3-6) and/or Elementary Teacher (ages 6-10) to join our outdoor learning team. This position will work alongside the Lead Teacher to learn daily routines, communication patterns, etc. before stepping up as a co-Lead. The ideal candidate will assist in creating a nurturing and supportive environment for our young learners, encouraging their development and independence through outdoor exploration, nature-based play, and hands-on learning. The co-teacher will help foster a deep connection with nature while guiding children in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
Responsibilities: Fostering a nurturing, safe outdoor classroom environment, by:
Implementing planned curriculum, which includes nature-based activities, child-led and informed areas of learning; hands-on play; nature hikes, and more.
Maintaining responsibility for the whole group while anticipating and mitigating potential risks for the children’s safety.
Providing support while encouraging independence in day-to-day routines and tasks.
Supporting children’s emotional and social development by promoting cooperative play, empathy, and conflict resolution.
Encouraging curiosity and a love for the natural world by engaging children in sensory exploration and imparting strategies for risk assessment of the environment.
Practicing clear, honest, and transparent communication with Directors and Co-Teachers about safety concerns or questions, information about child conflicts, and sharing daily highlights during designated check-ins.
Maintaining a positive attitude and bolstering student confidence and resilience.
Modeling inclusivity by ensuring all children feel valued and respected in their interactions with one another and nature.
Displaying professional standards of communication in all interactions with staff, students, and parents
Desired Skills & Certifications:
- Pediatric First Aid & CPR Certification
- Pass LiveScan & Background Check
- Bachelor's Degree in Education and/or 12 Core Early Childhood Education Units (for Pre-K/Kinder Teacher) preferred
- Physical ability to spend extended time outdoors, with hiking and moderate physical activities. Teachers & Support must be able to remain outside during school sessions in inclement weather.
Logistics:
Academic Year Working Hours: Tuesday-Thursday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Summer Camp Working Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
There will be additional planning meeting hours TBD outside of the hours listed above.
