The Clay Table Studio
The Clay Table Studio is excited to welcome a friendly, creative, and reliable Ceramics Instructor & Studio Technician to our team! We're looking for someone with strong pottery experience, a passion for teaching, and a willingness to help keep our studio running smoothly.
The ideal candidate has daytime and evening availability on both Thursdays and Fridays.
About the Role
We're seeking someone who is passionate about both teaching ceramics and supporting the day-to-day operations of a community studio. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing, and surface decoration, along with the ability to create a welcoming, encouraging classroom environment for students of all skill levels.
In addition to teaching, this role includes studio technician responsibilities such as kiln loading, glaze maintenance, clay reclaim, and general studio organization. We're looking for someone who is reliable, proactive, and comfortable working independently to help keep the studio running smoothly.
What You’ll Do
- Teach engaging ceramics classes for students of all skill levels, demonstrating wheel throwing, hand-building, trimming, glazing, and surface decoration techniques.
- Create a positive, student-centered learning environment by providing individualized guidance, encouragement, and hands-on support throughout each class.
- Provide guidance during Makeup Days by answering questions, offering feedback, and assisting students as they continue working on their projects.
- Support day-to-day studio operations, including loading and unloading kilns, mixing and maintaining glazes, reclaiming clay, and maintaining clay traps.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming studio by organizing tools and materials, assisting with general maintenance, and ensuring shared spaces are safe and ready for members and classes.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong ceramics experience, including wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing, and the ability to confidently teach students of varying skill levels.
- Professional, reliable, and communicative, with a positive attitude, attention to detail, and respect for scheduled shifts. (Prompt communication is expected if you're running late or unable to work.)
- Committed to students and studio responsibilities, maintaining focus on teaching during class time and on assigned studio tasks during paid work hours.
- Respectful of studio property, materials, equipment, and confidential studio information, while helping maintain a safe and collaborative community.
Compensation & Benefits
- Ceramics Instruction: $40/hour
- Studio Technician (makeup day guidance): $20/hour
