Job Description for Childcare Teacher II - LEAD

Purpose
The Childcare Teacher II - LEAD will be empowered and supported to serve as a leader in Trinity Childcare, and as a caretaker for the children in the Trinity Lutheran Church & School Childcare program and/or the extended childcare program (ECC).
Responsibilities
· Demonstrate faith in Jesus Christ in attitudes and behaviors to all under his/her direction and care
· Demonstrate competency by being able to physically, mentally, and emotionally able to provide responsible care for children of all ages, including children with disabilities
· Nurture and care for co-workers, parents and children in a loving and Christian manner
· Plan, implement and supervise the daily activities for a group of children
· Demonstrate leadership through daily contact with and support of all Childcare Teacher I on overlapping shift, setting an example as an effective member as a team through effective communication, a spirit of reconciliation, and behaviors consistent with the Staff Team Covenant
· Through personal interaction at drop-off and pick-up, keep the parents informed of daily happenings and schedules specific to their child
· Plan, implement and evaluate Christ-centered curriculum in accordance with the mission and vision of Trinity Lutheran Church & School
· Develop and submit to the Childcare Director & Administrative Assistant weekly or monthly themes and plans. Post monthly plan in the room for parents
· Keep current developmental records of children in class through observation, note-taking, and skills assessments; send reports of progress to parents
· Assist Childcare Teachers with implementing age-appropriate child discipline as necessary
· Maintain professional contact with parents/guardians regarding discipline when necessary
· Maintain active and effective communication with School Teachers of school-aged children enrolled in Childcare for a collaborative and consistent management of those students between School and Childcare
· Submit changes of information regarding family and emergency information to the Childcare Director
· Document in child’s file illness, biting, accidents, separation anxiety reports and conferences with parents
· Enforce appropriate health, safety and sanitation rules and policies
· Orient and supervise Childcare Teacher I according to policies of Trinity Childcare
· Provide written guidelines for substitutes
· Maintain an active worship life within the Christian church
· Assist Childcare Director in the planning and implementation of special events
· Attend and prepare for Staff meetings and devotions
· Carry out other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Childcare Director
Minimum Qualifications
· Be an active member of a Christian church
· Support the mission and purpose of Trinity Lutheran Church & School, gathering people who grow in faith and sharing Jesus with all
· Be at least 18 years old
· Show evidence of love for teaching children in a Christ-centered environment
· Maintain confidences, be respectful, courteous, and be an effective listener/communicator with staff, parents and children
· Be professional, reliable, poised, punctual and enthusiastic
· Completion of continuing education as required to promote a growth mindset
Minimum Professional Qualifications
· Completion of the following department-approved training within the specified timeframes of assuming the position:
- At least 240 hours of experience as Childcare Teacher I at Trinity Lutheran Church & School or a Teacher Assistant in a group childcare center*
- Child abuse and neglect training within 1 week
- Abusive Head Trauma Prevention for Child Care Providers within 1 week (includes SIDS/SBS as of August 2020)*
- Introduction to the Child Care Profession prior to assuming position*
- Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler Care prior to assuming position*
- Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher prior to assuming position*
- Pre-hire requirements including a Background Check and pre-employment screening
- Sexual Abuse Awareness Training upon hire
· Completion of Trinity-specific and department-specific Orientation within 1 week
· Exercise good judgment in care of children appropriate to age group
· Physically able to bend, stoop, sit on floor and lift light objects and infants
Preferred Qualifications
· Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college
· Be an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church & School in Wausau
*Indicates “or equivalent, as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction or Department of Children & Families, as appropriate
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 per hour
