The Learning and Development Specialist assists NLHD managers with developing a culture of continuous learning for all staff to ensure high quality service delivery. Plans and deploys the Annual Employee Summit. Maintains and builds the LMS of NLHD. Ensures compliance to annual competencies for accreditation and regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Registered Nurse with 5 year’s experience required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Position Summary
The Nurse Educator is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that support clinical competency, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, patient safety, and professional development for nursing and clinical staff. The Nurse Educator promotes evidence-based practice and ensures staff education aligns with the standards of the DNV Healthcare USA Inc., state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and rural healthcare best practices.
The Nurse Educator collaborates with department leaders to identify learning needs, develop competency-based training programs, support orientation and onboarding, and foster a culture of continuous learning and patient safety throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Education and Staff Development
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver orientation programs for new nursing staff and clinical personnel.
- Design and implement annual education plans based on organizational goals, regulatory requirements, quality indicators, and identified competency gaps.
- Provide ongoing education utilizing adult learning principles and evidence-based practices.
- Facilitate classroom instruction, simulation training, skills validation, online learning, and bedside coaching.
- Assist staff in achieving professional development goals and specialty certifications.

Moderate Sedation
Competency Management
- Develop and maintain competency assessment programs for all nursing personnel.
- Coordinate initial, annual, and ongoing competency validation in accordance with DNV standards.
- Ensure competency documentation is complete, current, and readily available during surveys.
- Monitor training compliance and collaborate with leadership to address deficiencies.
- Validate high-risk, low-volume skills through simulation and competency assessments.
Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance
- Maintain knowledge of DNV standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, New Mexico Board of Nursing regulations, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist departments in preparing for accreditation and regulatory surveys.
- Participate in policy review and revision to ensure regulatory compliance.

- Assist in developing educational programs tailored to rural healthcare challenges and limited-resource environments.
- Coordinate educational partnerships with local schools, colleges, and healthcare organizations.
