Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Duties
- Conduct thorough client assessments using diagnostic tools such as DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding standards to determine treatment needs and develop personalized care plans.
- Deliver individual, group, and family counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, behavioral therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
- Facilitate crisis intervention and crisis management strategies to ensure client safety during acute episodes or emergencies.
- Manage clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, maintaining accurate medical records, progress notes, and treatment plans within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for case management, treatment planning, and discharge planning while ensuring continuity of care across home, community, hospital settings, and outpatient services.
- Conduct patient care activities such as intake assessments, behavioral health evaluations, and ongoing client assessments to monitor progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Engage in research activities or data collection efforts to support program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives related to addiction medicine and mental health care.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related mental health field; licensure or certification as required by state law (e.g., LCSW, LPC).
- Proven experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Strong knowledge of addiction counseling techniques, DSM-5 diagnostic standards, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and evidence-based practices such as CPT coding for billing purposes.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols, trauma-informed care including PTSD management, and group therapy facilitation skills.
- Excellent clinical documentation skills adhering to medical documentation standards; experience with EMR/EHR systems is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations from various cultural backgrounds while maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Competence in client assessment in therapy settings involving social work principles, mental health counseling techniques, behavioral health strategies, and case management processes.

Pay: $31.14 - $37.50 per hour
